Martin Thompson - Responding in a Timely Manner

He talks about stuff like: Hard real time and Soft real time, distributes systems, Latency Distributions, queuing theory, Little's Law, Amdahl's law, Universal scalability law, Big O notation, hyperthreading, NUMA architectures, Garbage Collection, JVM Safepoints, Virtualization, benchmarking, profiling, non-blocking design, lock-free algorithms, etc.

As always, his presentations are full of details and insights. If you watch his talk and don't learn anything new, then lets just say that "you're way ahead of the curve"  :-O

I particularly liked the part about Immutable (Persistent) data structures and magic ponies  :)
And what he said about "know your data structures".

(...) I think we're in an interesting era where people who just recall facts are almost redundant, because you can just google for them (the facts).
What's really useful is people who can reason. People who are aware of "I need to know what that is, given the characteristics of what I'm doing, and I can lookup it up."
It's that curiosity and ability to reason that I would search for during an interview process (...)
