Myth Busting presentation by Martin Thompson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC1EKLQ2Wmg

Martin Thompson is on of the creators of the "Disruptor" pattern and he has a cool blog named "Mechanical Sympathy"

Something interesting that he talks about is that although "The Free Lunch is Over" since 2005, there has been some scaling on the access to memory, which means that the actual speed of each core has been increasing (subjective to how you define speed).

Here is a recent plot of the evolution of clock speed on modern CPUs:

As always, I learned a lot just by watching his presentation. It is definitely cool stuff for people who like HW and how it affects software performance.
